Employment Contracts, Federal Decree-Law 33/2021 & MOHRE Visas

- Standardised MOHRE Contracts: Employment contracts must be registered and authenticated electronically with MOHRE or the relevant Free Zone Authority (DIFC, ADGM).

Working Hours, Wage Protection System (WPS) & Ramadan
- Standard Hours: 40 to 48 hours per week (8 hours/day over 5 or 6 days). Reduced by **2 hours per day** during the holy month of Ramadan for all employees.
- Overtime Surcharges: Minimum 125% (25% premium) of basic wage for standard overtime; 150% (50% premium) between 22:00 and 04:00 or on weekly rest days.
- Mandatory Wage Protection System (WPS): Mainland employers must disburse salaries through the Central Bank electronic WPS to maintain labor compliance.
Annual Vacation (30 Calendar Days), Public Holidays & Maternity
- Annual Paid Vacation: Minimum 30 calendar days (or 22 working days) paid leave per continuous year of service.
- Public Holidays: ~14 official national and Islamic public holidays.
- Maternity Leave: 60 calendar days (45 days fully paid + 15 days half paid) provided by the employer. Paternity leave is 5 working days.
End of Service Gratuity (EOSG), DEWS Pension Scheme & 0% Tax
Mandatory End of Service Gratuity (*EOSG / Gratuity*)
Under Article 51 of the UAE Labour Law, expatriate employees completing at least one year of continuous service are entitled to statutory gratuity:
- First 5 Years of Service: 21 days' basic salary for each completed year.
- Subsequent Years (Year 6+): 30 days' basic salary for each completed year of service (capped at 2 years' total salary).
Alternative Savings Scheme (DEWS in DIFC)
In the DIFC and under the voluntary federal scheme, employers make monthly contributions into a defined-contribution workplace savings fund (5.83% of basic salary for first 5 years / 8.33% thereafter) in lieu of end-of-service gratuity lump sums.
Personal Income Tax: 0.0% (Zero Tax) on employment income and capital gains.
